Message from the Senior Vice President for Research
Ohio State Ranked Among the Top 10 Public Research Universities in the Nation
Dear Colleagues:
I'm delighted to report that Ohio State's research program now ranks 10th in the nation among public universities according to the federal government's recently released figures on research expenditures for 2003.
With total research expenditures of $496 million during FY03, Ohio State moved up two positions from 12th among public universities, and up from 18th in 2002 to 15th in 2003 among all universities, public and private. Along the way, OSU moved ahead of MIT, University of California-Davis, and Texas A&M, three highly respected research institutions.
Attaining a spot among the nation's top 10 public research universities is a remarkable achievement considering that competition for research funding has intensified dramatically during recent years. Our success continues, as new research awards for fiscal year 2005 have climbed to $552 million. These achievements reflect the dedication, hard work and imagination of research faculty from all across the university, and enable OSU to provide for our students one of the best educational opportunities in the nation.
Let me extend my personal thanks and congratulations to all of our researchers - educators whose hard work has contributed to this most recent recognition, and whose scholarship so greatly enriches the academic experience here at OSU.
Go Bucks!
Sincerely yours,
